Accent Walls & Limewash

Accent walls and limewash with real depth

An accent wall is the cheapest big change you can make to a room, and the one most often done badly. A flat coat of a darker colour on one wall looks like a mistake; a limewash or a textured finish, applied by hand, looks like a decision.

How we do it

Accent Walls & Limewash across Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties

Limewash is a mineral paint that soaks into the wall and dries to a soft, cloudy, matte finish with natural movement in it. We brush it on in overlapping strokes, usually two coats over a mineral primer, so the variation is even and intentional rather than streaky. It suits bedrooms, dining rooms, fireplace walls and the big open-plan living walls in newer Pensacola homes.

For a bolder look we also do textured and plaster-effect finishes, colour-blocked shapes, painted arches and half-walls, and dark feature walls in a washable eggshell. We paint a sample on your wall first so you see the real finish in your own light before committing to the whole thing.

Most accent walls are a one-day job, two for limewash because the coats need to dry. It pairs well with a repaint of the rest of the room while the furniture is already covered.

Often booked with it: interior painting and cabinet refinishing.

Good to know

Accent Walls & Limewash: the questions we get asked

What is limewash, and how is it different from paint?

Limewash is made from slaked lime and natural pigment. It soaks into the surface and dries matte with soft, cloud-like variation, where ordinary paint sits on top as a flat film. It is breathable, hides small imperfections well and looks better the closer you get.

Can limewash go over an already painted wall?

Yes, over a mineral primer made for it. We prime first so the limewash has something to bond to; without that it can rub off.

How do I pick which wall to accent?

The wall you face when you walk in, or the one behind the bed or the sofa. We will tell you honestly if a wall is a poor choice, for example one broken up by doors and windows.

Does an accent wall cost more than a normal wall?

A plain accent wall costs about the same as any painted wall. Limewash and textured finishes take more time and product, so they cost more per wall; we quote it after seeing the room.

Can you match a limewash colour I saw online?

Usually. Bring the picture or the colour name and we will match or sample the closest option. Limewash shades shift with the light, so the sample on your wall is the real test.
