Shutters & Columns

Shutters and columns, built and finished to match the house

Shutters and porch columns are the details people notice on a Gulf Coast house, and the ones the weather gets to first. Vinyl shutters fade and warp, wood ones rot at the bottom rail, and porch columns split and peel where water sits.

How we do it

Shutters & Columns across Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties

We build new shutters and columns to fit your openings, in board-and-batten, louvered or panel styles, from materials that stand up to humidity. Then we prime and paint or stain them in the shop so every face is sealed before they go on the house, and fit them with the right fixings for the wall.

If yours are sound but tired, refinishing is the cheaper route: we take them down, wash and sand them, repair what we can, and spray them in a durable exterior finish. Columns are repaired in place, with rotten sections cut out and rebuilt before paint.

Most shutter and column work happens alongside an exterior repaint, when the colours are being chosen anyway, but we do it on its own too.

Often booked with it: exterior painting and deck, fence & wood staining.

Shutters & Columns: the questions we get asked

Can you replace vinyl shutters with wood?

Yes. We build to the opening size, so the new ones fit the same spot. We use rot-resistant materials and seal every face, which is why they last where off-the-shelf ones do not.

Are the shutters functional or decorative?

Either. Most on newer homes are decorative and fixed to the wall. Working shutters on hinges are possible on older houses if the openings allow it.

My porch column is rotting at the base. Can it be saved?

Often, yes. We cut out the rotten section, rebuild it and seal and paint the column. If the rot runs too far we will tell you and build a new one.

Do you match the existing colour?

Yes. We match the trim or body colour already on the house, or help you pick a contrast if the shutters are getting a new colour.
