Deck, Fence & Wood Staining

Deck, fence and wood staining that keeps the wood

Pressure-treated decks and fences in Northwest Florida grey, crack and grow mildew fast under the sun and the afternoon rain. A stain and sealer every few years is what keeps the wood from needing replacing.

How we do it

Deck, Fence & Wood Staining across Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties

We wash the wood, treat the mildew, apply a brightener to lift the grey, and let it dry completely. Then a penetrating stain in a transparent, semi-transparent or solid colour, brushed into the end grain and rolled on the boards, with a second coat where the wood drinks the first one.

New pressure-treated wood needs to weather for a few months before it will take a stain; if your deck or fence is brand new, we will tell you when to call us back rather than seal it too early.

Pergolas, porch railings, dock boards and wooden shutters get the same treatment. If the wood is too far gone to stain well, we will say so.

Often booked with it: pressure washing and exterior painting.

Good to know

Deck, Fence & Wood Staining: the questions we get asked

How often should a deck be restained here?

Horizontal deck boards in full sun usually need a fresh coat every two to three years. Fences and vertical surfaces last longer, often four or five.

Can you stain a brand-new fence?

Pressure-treated wood needs to dry out for a few months first. We will look at it and tell you when it is ready; staining too early traps moisture and the finish fails.

Stain or paint for a fence?

Stain, almost always. It soaks into the wood instead of sitting on top, so it never peels and the next coat goes straight on without scraping.

How long until I can use the deck?

Keep furniture off for about 48 hours after the final coat. You can walk on it after a day.
