Cabinet Refinishing

Cabinet refinishing: a new kitchen without the demolition

Most kitchens in Pensacola have cabinets that are perfectly solid and simply dated: honey oak, builder maple, a stain that has gone orange. Refinishing keeps the boxes, replaces nothing, and gives you a smooth, durable, sprayed finish in the colour you want.

How we do it

Cabinet Refinishing across Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties

The process is the job. We remove the doors, drawer fronts and hardware and label every piece. The surfaces are degreased, scuff-sanded, and primed with a bonding primer that sticks to old lacquer and stain. Then a cabinet-grade enamel is sprayed in several thin coats, which is what gives it the hard, even finish that brushing cannot.

Doors and drawers are sprayed in a controlled setup so there is no dust in the finish; the cabinet boxes are masked and sprayed in your kitchen. A typical kitchen is out of action for about four to five working days, and you can put it back together the day after we finish.

If you want new handles, soft-close hinges or a painted island in a second colour, we can do that at the same time. Many people pair a cabinet job with a fresh coat on the kitchen walls while the room is already covered.

Often booked with it: furniture staining & painting and interior painting.

Good to know

Cabinet Refinishing: the questions we get asked

How long will my kitchen be out of action?

Usually four to five working days for an average kitchen. The sink and fridge stay usable; the doors and drawers come back on the last day and the finish is ready for normal use after a short cure.

Will the finish chip?

Not with the right prep and product. A bonding primer plus a cabinet enamel gives a finish that handles daily use. Around the sink and the trash pull-out, which get the most abuse, we pay extra attention. Avoid hanging wet towels on the doors for the first few weeks.

Can you paint laminate or thermofoil cabinets?

Laminate, yes, with the right bonding primer. Thermofoil that is peeling has to be repaired or the fronts replaced first; we will tell you which when we look at it.

How much does cabinet refinishing cost compared with replacing?

Typically a fraction of a new kitchen, and there is no demolition, no countertop removal and no plumbing. We quote per kitchen after seeing it, so the number on the paper is the number you pay.

Can I change the colour of my island only?

Yes. A two-tone kitchen with a painted island or lower cabinets is one of the most popular requests we get.
